Delhi Capitals announce Sourav Ganguly as new head coach ahead of IPL 2027. On Tuesday, October 6, the franchise confirmed the appointment of the former India captain to bring to an end speculation regarding one of its major coaching changes.
A long association with the Delhi Capitals and the JSW Sports group, Ganguly has. In IPL 2019, he was the team mentor before moving to serve as JSW’s director of cricket in 2024. In 2025, he also worked with the Pretoria Capitals in the SA20, having first experienced being a head coach in franchise cricket.
The appointment comes on the back of Delhi Capitals’ sixth position in IPL 2026. The franchise is reworking its backroom staff with an eye on another season as it chases its first IPL title.
Another former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh is also due to join Ganguly, with the team first announcing him as its batting coach before adding that they were unsure of his plan. It will combine two former India legends with plenty of international experience.
Reacting to the news, Ganguly said that taking charge of Delhi Capitals is an emotionally fulfilling moment for him as this was a franchise that he had a great bond with over the years. He also pointed out the quality within the squad and insisted his priority would be instilling a side that can compete with any opponent.
The franchise co-owners were also pleased with Ganguly’s appointment, citing his knowledge of cricket, experience in leadership and understanding of how the franchise works within a larger organization.
Delhi Capitals meanwhile have also made another major change to their playing squad. In a trade involving spinner Kuldeep Yadav, Rishabh Pant has returned to the franchise from Lucknow Super Giants. Pant played for Delhi Capitals in nine IPL seasons from 2016 to 2024 before shifting to Lucknow.
With Ganguly now at the helm and Pant back in the squad, a new leadership structure has emerged for India Cements-owned Delhi Capitals leading into IPL 2027.
