India Women Beat Zimbabwe by 9 Wickets to Seal T20I Series

INDW vs ZIMW 2nd T20I: India Women crush Zimbabwe by nine wickets in Raipur, take lead in the series India swatted aside Zimbabwe in 6.5 overs after bowling the opposition out for just 102, with Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana on fire as batters.

The national side, under Mandhana’s newly full-time captaincy, won the series in an impressive all-round team effort. The bowling unit set the tone for the win, followed by an opening partnership that tore into the run-chase.

Zimbabwe Struggle Against India’s Bowling Attack

On a slow surface which really gripped, Zimbabwe’s decision to bat after winning the toss proved costly as they failed to get themselves going. Bowling tight lines and length, Indian bowlers once again put on a disciplined performance making the run scoring difficult for the Zimbabwean batters.

At the end of the powerplay, Zimbabwe could only boast 20 runs for the loss of a wicket. Kelis Ndhlovu only managed a duck, while Beloved Biza followed suit in an uninspiring top order performance. As Zimbabwe battled to reach competitive totals, India’s bowlers kept piling on the pressure time and again.

Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano was the top-scorer, hitting 34 off 32 deliveries with reverse sweeps and well-placed shots to find the boundary. Captain Josephine Nkomo chipped in with 27 off 35 as the side batted right through the innings.

But, wickets kept tumbling gradually from the India bowling assault. One of the most unforgettable international debuts was Niki Prasad, who took out two batters with her first two legitimate balls. Ending with figures of 2 for 7, she played a vital role in limiting Zimbabwe to just 102 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs.

Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana Dominate the Chase

Zimbabwe has been open to testing its technical prowess against the world’s best, reversing a pattern established in white-ball cricket—India’s Test blueprint was a polar opposite to Zimbabwe’s diffident batting display. Opening pair of Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana attacked from the get-go to pounce on loose deliveries, forcing the opposition bowlers onto the defensive right from the off.

India was firmly in charge after the opening partnership took 76 runs during the powerplay. Mandhana was in time and range as she hit six fours, including four of them off Nwatcha Gwanzura in one over.

Shafali also went berserk, scoring 55 runs from just 24 balls. During her innings, she scored 6 fours and 4 sixes before getting out in the eighth over.

Mandhana remained not out on 47 off 25 and on the last ball she finished it off in style by hitting a six over extra cover. India at 104 for 1 in only 6.5 overs where Anushka Sharma got a run.

India Seal the Series with a Dominant Performance

There was a big chasm between the teams which showed up in bowling discipline and batting aggression during India’s nine-wicket victory. India, meanwhile, had their first-innings bowlers keep a lid on Zimbabwe’s scoring and then finish the chase in a hurry.

It also earned Mandhana an immense milestone on her captaincy path, marking the first T20I series victory under her full-time leadership. This momentum will help India move ahead in the remaining matches of the series while Zimbabwe will have to learn quickly around their batting unit and be at least competitive against their hosts.
