England opened their innings with a massive stand between Phil Salt and Jos Buttler. The duo found the boundaries immediately, pummeling every South African bowler, and leaving the visitors no chance of a comeback.
Jos Buttler also departed for 83 from just 30 balls, in what was to be one of the fastest innings of his whole T20I career. His knock consisted of 8 fours and 7 sixes.
Jacob Bethell continued the charge after Buttler’s wicket with a brisk 26 off just 14 balls before Harry Brook contributed an unbeaten 41 off only 21 deliveries.
But Phil Salt was the undisputed star of the innings. South Africa Chase – 158 All Out
Needing a quick start to chase a mammoth 305, South Africa lost wickets on regular intervals instead.
Ryan Rickleton looked confident for his few minutes at the crease, while captain Aiden Markram played good innings for his side as he scored 41 runs off just 20 balls This was after Tristan Stubbs managed 23 on debut, Donovan Ferreira also contributed a quickfire 23 and Bjorn Fortuin enjoyed himself late with 32 off just 16 balls.
The likes of Faf du Plessis, Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen added token resistance but with three wickets falling in the powerplay South Africa were left with too much to do. England’s hypnotic pace bowling wiped the winning wickets and the scoring lid, clinching the chase long before 20 overs were up.

Player of the Match
Phil Salt rightly got the Player of the Match after scoring one of the best innings by an England batter in a T20 International. His 141 not out from just 60 balls included some audacious stroke play, timing and clean hitting.
Salt ruled the pace and spin to propel England past the 300-run mark with barely a chance for South Africa to get back in control.
