UP Warriorz have appointed former India women’s chief selector and legendary left-arm spinner Neetu David as the franchise’s new chief scout for the Women’s Premier League. She will take over from former Bengal allrounder Rajib Dutta and be complemented by head coach Abhishek Nayar in nurturing a robust talent identification and development structure.
David is well-versed with Indian women’s cricket. Her years of playing and working in the women’s game have given her an up-close view of the talent available nationally, she said. While she will concentrate on the present as a scout, also among players who can develop when given the right opportunities and support.
David played 10 Tests and 97 ODIs for India between 1995, when he made his debut, and 2008. An impressive haul of 182 wickets across the two formats continues to make her own mark, holding the record for best bowling figures in a women’s Test innings. Received ICC Hall Of Fame: In 2024, she was only the second Indian female to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.
David was further the chief of India ladies’s choice panel from September 2020 to September 2025. The selection panel selected the Indian team that won the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup during her tenure.
The WPL 2023 marked the first edition of the league and UP Warriorz made it to playoffs but barely made a mark in the second season, finishing bottom of the table in both 2025 and 2026. David worked with the franchise as part of its plan to have an off-season camp in Bengaluru recently.
Her appointment will surely provide the UP Warriorz’s scouting setup an upper hand, with the franchise hoping to uncover hidden gems and bolster their side for better conduct in the WPL.
