Now, one of those players is ready to swap to English conditions after impressing for India in international cricket this summer having joined Warwickshire for the next two rounds of the County Championship fresh from making a brilliant first impression in his fledgling career – left-arm spinner Manav Suthar.
The 23-year-old has been called up by the county side to bolster their bowling attack near a vital point in the season after making his Test debut for India recently. Suthar will be available for Warwickshire’s next fixture at Yorkshire in Scarborough on June 12, after which he will remain with the squad for their subsequent match against Somerset at Taunton a week later.
Suthar comes to England riding on the crest of a dream debut in Test cricket. The youngster playing for India in the one-off Test against Afghanistan (debut at Mullanpur) had announced himself on international stage with a wicket off his very first over. He then followed it up with a brilliant bowling performance picking 6 wickets in the first innings and taking another one in second to finish with 7 wickets in the match.
He is now on an upward trajectory, built off a superb domestic platform. Suthar, who plays in India’s domestic circuit for Rajasthan, has shown his potential of effective control, variation and patience to constantly disturb batters. He had picked up 129 first-class wickets in only 29 matches; numbers that suggested he was on track to be the country’s next big spin hope and earned him a place in the national set-up.

The county stint is, for Suthar, just another step in his progression. It’s going to be an educational test in very different English conditions also plenty of opportunity for Warwickshire followers to see one of India’s bright hopes.
